Permission to Relax – Yin Yoga & Sound Bath
February 11 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
£25
For this offering, Kat and Eirene have come together to co-create the ultimate Relaxation Experience using slow movement and sound.
As the cold season, a season of pause and reflection, is still with us for a little while, we invite you to come celebrate with us your body’s need to rest and your soul’s calling to turn within and give to yourself.
In a world where rushing, achieving and the chase for instant gratification are the norm, we owe it to ourselves to regularly make a conscious choice to stop and relax. We are providing the space for you to do just that through guiding your body to move deeply into the Yin Yoga poses with Kat whilst the instruments played by Eirene will help you fall into a deeper relaxation with each pose.
We designed the session in this way, where yoga and the Sound Bath happen simultaneously, so that it provides a longer uninterrupted sequence that brings the body and the mind into an even deeper relaxation. The aim is to bring complete balance between the body and the mind and create pauses in the train of thought and foreground the body.
The session will start with a short meditation to slow down the system, followed by the yoga and sound sequence. And because February is the month of love and relationships, we felt guided to end this session with a coming together as a community whilst enjoying beautiful tea and a delicious vegan cake.
Yin yoga is a calm method of yoga that focuses on working with the connective tissues – we do not stretch our ligaments, fascia or joints, instead we “load” the tissues with our own body weight. We use this natural strain on the body, gravity and time. Staying in positions for a prolonged time (3 to 7 mins) has a positive effect on our fascia, our nervous system, and our mind by teaching us patience and acceptance.
On a deeper level, when practicing Yin Yoga, we are working with our life energy Chi (qi) ensuring its fluidity within our bodies. When the force of Chi is fluid within us, it means our outer life is also flowing with ease and our mind, body and Soul connection is in complete harmony causing our system to completely relax.
Sound therapy helps the body enter a deep state of relaxation but also facilitates many other health benefits such as: calming the adrenal glands to eliminate stress and stress related symptoms, facilitates relief from physical pain, and brings balance to all aspects of our existence, mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
The beautiful, complex sounds of the instruments will fill the space with healing relaxing high frequency vibrations.
The method used was taught by the British Academy of Sound Therapy and is a very powerful and profound method which can enable you to enter an altered state of consciousness (ASC) for the duration of the entire session or for short periods of time during the session. Entering these states is extremely nourishing for your whole system and these are the states where the body is given the opportunity to heal itself the most.
In this session, Eirene will play the Himalayan/Tibetan Bowls, the Wind or Sun Chinese gong and the Crystal Bowls in a sequence that will support the relaxing process and help release tense energy the body needs to expel as a result of this process. The sound bath will end with a percussion sequence aimed at safely bringing you back to the space, followed by a two minutes silence pause during which the participants will observe the effects the session had on their system.
By combining the two practices, we are helping the body fall deeper and deeper into relaxing states.
